When parents search for the best eczema cream for baby, they are not looking for another quick fix. They want something that truly helps dry, irritated skin settle, without harsh ingredients or constant flare-ups returning days later.
Most creams rely on a single approach, often high zinc or petroleum barriers. Matylda Baby works differently. Our balm supports the skin from multiple angles: restoring the moisture barrier, calming irritation, and protecting delicate skin without overwhelming it.
Balanced support, not just surface-level relief.

Honestly, we’re a big fan! Considering we’ve been through many creams, been referred to a dermatologist, this is the cream that has helped her neck the most!
Eczema is not just dryness. It is a weakened skin barrier.
Many creams focus only on covering the skin. But when the skin barrier is compromised, moisture escapes and irritation returns. Supporting the barrier properly with nourishing fats, calming botanicals and gentle protection helps reduce flare-ups over time.
This is why many parents find that stronger creams give short-term relief but do not stop the cycle. Supporting the skin barrier consistently, with ingredients that nourish and protect rather than overwhelm, helps the skin stay calmer for longer and reduces how often flare-ups return.
Carefully chosen ingredients
Designed for eczema-prone skin
Our balm combines grass-fed tallow, calendula-infused oil, and panthenol to support repair, soothe irritation, and lock in moisture. A small amount of zinc oxide helps protect without creating a thick, drying layer. No fillers, no petroleum, no synthetic fragrance, just ingredients that work together to support delicate skin.
Every ingredient has a purpose, nothing is added to bulk it out.

Why we created MATYLDA BABY
Matylda started when Hana’s baby girl was struggling with eczema and nappy rash that no readily available cream could fix. Teaming up with her best friend Emma, a natural cosmetics expert, they created a balm using carefully chosen ingredients, gentle, effective, and safe enough for their own babies’ skin.
One of the biggest concerns parents have when choosing a baby eczema cream or moisturiser is how it will feel on sore, sensitive skin. Many expect something that stings, smells too strong, or feels like too much on already reactive skin. Ours does not. Our grass-fed tallow balm is firm in the tin but melts instantly between your fingertips, transforming into a smooth, nourishing layer that glides easily onto dry, eczema-prone skin. Because tallow closely mimics the skin’s natural oils, it absorbs beautifully while helping support the skin barrier, leaving skin soft, calm and comfortable, never harsh, sticky or suffocating.
A little truly goes a long way.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get rid of my baby’s eczema?
Eczema does not usually disappear overnight, and most parents find that quick fixes only give temporary relief. The goal is to reduce flare-ups and help the skin stay calm over time. This means keeping the skin well moisturised, avoiding known triggers, and using a balm that supports the skin barrier daily. With consistent care, many babies experience fewer flare-ups and more comfortable, settled skin.
What can I put on baby eczema that actually works?
Most parents reach this point after trying multiple creams with little success. What tends to work best is not a single “strong” ingredient, but a product that supports the skin properly. This means restoring the moisture barrier, calming irritation, and protecting the skin from further dryness. A well-formulated balm can do all three, helping skin feel softer and more comfortable while reducing how often flare-ups return over time.
What is the best eczema cream for baby?
The best eczema cream for a baby is one that supports the skin long term rather than just masking symptoms. Many conventional creams rely heavily on zinc or petroleum, which can protect temporarily but do not always help the skin recover. A more balanced formulation that nourishes, calms and protects the skin barrier tends to be more effective over time, especially for babies with sensitive or flare-prone skin.
Is natural eczema cream effective for babies?
Natural eczema creams can be very effective, but only if they are properly formulated. Many are either too basic or rely on oils that sit on the surface without truly supporting the skin. The key is using ingredients that work with the skin, not just on it. When done well, a natural balm can be both gentle and effective, offering real support without the concerns many parents have about synthetic ingredients.
Why does my baby’s eczema keep coming back?
Eczema often comes back because the underlying skin barrier is still weakened. Even if redness improves, the skin may still be losing moisture and reacting to small triggers. This is why short-term fixes can feel frustrating. Consistent use of a barrier-supportive balm, alongside gentle skincare, helps strengthen the skin over time and can reduce how often flare-ups happen.
Is zinc oxide good for eczema in babies?
Zinc oxide can be helpful because it protects the skin and reduces irritation, which is why it is commonly used in nappy creams. However, very high levels can make products thick, drying or difficult to spread. A balanced amount works best, offering protection without overwhelming the skin. When combined with nourishing and calming ingredients, it becomes part of a more effective overall approach.
Can beef tallow help with redness or eczema-prone skin?
Steroid creams are sometimes prescribed by doctors, especially during more severe flare-ups, and can be helpful when used correctly. However, many parents prefer not to rely on them long term. A gentle, supportive balm can be used alongside or between treatments to help maintain the skin barrier and reduce how often stronger interventions may be needed. Always follow medical advice if you have been given it.
Can I use nappy cream on eczema?
You can use nappy cream on eczema in some cases, especially if it contains zinc oxide, which helps protect irritated skin. However, most nappy creams are designed for short-term barrier protection rather than ongoing eczema care. They often focus on creating a thick layer over the skin, without actively supporting repair or long-term balance.
For eczema-prone skin, a balm designed specifically to nourish, calm and protect the skin barrier tends to work better over time. This helps reduce dryness and irritation more consistently, rather than just covering symptoms during flare-ups.
What is the 3-minute rule for eczema?
The 3-minute rule refers to applying a moisturiser within three minutes after bathing, while the skin is still slightly damp. This helps lock in moisture and prevent dryness. For babies with eczema-prone skin, this simple habit can make a noticeable difference. Using a nourishing balm at this stage helps seal in hydration and protect the skin barrier throughout the day.
How do you treat baby eczema according to NHS guidance?
The NHS typically recommends keeping the skin well moisturised with emollients, avoiding irritants such as harsh soaps, and using prescribed treatments if needed during flare-ups. While this forms a strong foundation, many parents look for gentler daily options that also support the skin barrier. A well-formulated balm can complement this approach by helping keep skin calm between flare-ups.
What triggers eczema in babies?
Common triggers include dry skin, heat, certain fabrics, soaps, and changes in environment. Sometimes there is no clear cause, which can feel frustrating. Because triggers are not always avoidable, keeping the skin well supported and protected helps reduce how strongly it reacts to everyday irritants.
How do I know if my baby has eczema?
Baby eczema usually appears as dry, red or slightly rough patches of skin, often on the cheeks, arms or behind the knees. The skin may look irritated and feel uncomfortable. If you are unsure, it is always best to check with a healthcare professional, especially if the skin is persistent or worsening.
Because when something truly works, you don’t need to keep searching.
When baby eczema looks red, angry or hard to settle, you want something you can trust close by. Keep a little pink tin in your changing bag, bathroom or beside the cot for gentle, steroid-free barrier support whenever dry, eczema-prone skin needs extra care.
