Matylda Baby was born out of necessity, love, and a little bit of desperation—like many great things. Amazingly, something beautiful grew out of those tough early days: a skincare brand made for babies like mine, and mums like me, who want the very best for their little ones.
When my daughter Matylda was just three months old, she developed eczema and a painful nappy rash that nothing seemed to help—not even the expensive organic creams.
One evening, during a particularly long nursing session, I started researching ingredients that could actually help heal her skin. Being someone with a bias for action, I made a snap decision and ordered the highest-quality, organic versions of every ingredient that showed promise.
When everything arrived a few days later, I suddenly realised I’d just spent hundreds of pounds on fancy ingredients—and had no idea what to do with them. That’s when my amazing friend Emma stepped in. Emma and her husband have years of experience in the natural skincare and supplement world, and together we started regular “cook-ups,” figuring out how to turn all these beautiful ingredients into a truly healing balm.
Ever since we created the first test batch, I began carefully testing it on my little Matylda—who, amazingly, started to improve. It proved once and for all that my gut instinct was right: trust in high-quality, nourishing ingredients, and never dilute them with cheap, unnecessary fillers.
It took five more tries before we were completely happy—with the texture, the scent, and how the balm felt on Matylda’s skin. Our weekly cook-ups became a lovely ritual—time to bond, experiment, and create something meaningful together.
Once we got it right, I knew we had something special. The balm felt gentle, absorbed beautifully, and left no greasy film—plus, it smelled just like a baby should. That’s when we started wondering if other mums might love it as much as we did. After some incredibly enthusiastic feedback from close friends, we decided to take the leap and turn our little passion project into a proper business.
Emma and I are both mums, and Matylda Baby is built on one simple promise: we only make products we’d use on our own little ones. No fillers. No shortcuts. Just thoughtfully chosen, pure ingredients—like grass-fed tallow, beeswax, calendula, and chamomile—used in generous, effective concentrations. It’s the kind of care your great-grandmother would have made—only now, you don’t have to make it from scratch. That’s what we’re here for.
